A budget-friendly 5-day lodge or camping hot air balloon safari in Tanzania allows you to experience the thrill of a balloon ride while exploring the country’s most iconic national parks and conservation areas. With careful planning and consideration of cost-saving measures, you can enjoy a memorable safari adventure without exceeding your budget.

Balloon Safari Overview

Hot Air Balloon Safari over Serengeti is a fantastic way to witness the start of the day’s work of the African animal kingdom from above the sky. You would be riding a balloon that would be floating slowly on Vast Serengeti Savannah early on dawn when most of the animal world would be in a half-asleep state. You would simply be driven in the direction the wind is blowing. The bush breakfast after the Hot Air Balloon Safari is a different experience to experience. The feel and the thrill of flying in a hot air balloon can supersede any Tanzania Safari experience.

The Hot Air Balloon Safari in Serengeti is always accompanied by escaping to some other fascinating National parks in Tanzania like Ngorongoro Conservation Area, Tarangire, and so on. If you are lucky: you can find the millions of mammals marching from Serengeti to Massai Mara of Kenya making the atmosphere dusty with their multi-million hoofs. The scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area: the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera hosts the densest African animal population: and Tarangire: known as a bird’s paradise are some of the options that would add much value to your Hot Air Balloon Safari.

A Serengeti and Ngorongoro balloon safari is the ultimate way to experience the vastness of the national park.

Just imagine floating above the Serengeti plains skimming treetops in complete silence whilst seeing wildlife on the ground below. This is an essential safari experience for travelers to Serengeti National Park.

Day-by-Day Safari Itinerary

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire

Leave Arusha with packed lunch boxes at 0830hrs for the Tarangire National Park tour. This park is located 120km away from town. In this astonishing park, Expect to see substantial herds of Elephants gathering alongside the Tarangire River along with many other species of animals e.g. Wildebeests, Lions, Buffaloes, Zebras, and prolific birds. Dinner and overnight at Country Lodge Karatu or Lilac public campsite.

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti

After breakfast, you start on your way to Serengeti National Park. Passing via the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way you will stop at the Olduvai Gorge (optional) where anthropologists Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries, contributing to the theory that human life originated in Africa. After stopping for your picnic lunch on a kopje (rock outcropping) in Serengeti you will continue further into the park with a sunset game drive en route. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Tortilis Camp or Seronera public campsite.

Day 3: Serengeti National Park hot air balloon

For the adventure of a lifetime, we offer the unique experience of a Balloon Safari over the Serengeti plains. Depart early in the morning to the launch site for the hot air balloons – you must depart early to enjoy the calm morning sky. Your balloon pilot will guide the balloon low over the Serengeti plains, providing you with the chance to see the different wildlife in their early morning activities: hippos returning to the water after wandering for food in the dark, elephants coming out for their morning feeding, lions returning from the hunt. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Tortilis Camp or Seronera public campsite.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Just after your hot breakfast, Embark on an early morning game drive in the Serengeti. Serengeti’s name comes from the Maasai Language meaning endless plain. Therefore is home to many animals including Lions, Elephants, Giraffe, Wildebeest, Zebra, Leopard, Cheetah, warthogs, Hyena plus lots and lots of birdlife. In many cases, migration is taking place around Serengeti, and at that particular time, millions of wildebeest and zebras are mingling together followed by predators. The afternoon after lunch, drive to Ngorongoro for dinner and overnight at Rhino Lodge or Simba public campsite.

Day 5: Ngorongoro to Arusha

After breakfast you will descend into the crater for a wonderful game drive (with a picnic lunch) inside the Ngorongoro Crater often described as one of the wonders of the world. It is the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera and a natural sanctuary for some of Africa’s densest animal populations. It is one of the few places where the rare black rhinos can be observed in their natural setting. As very few animals migrate in and out of the crater with its 2000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds, and other species. With a bit of luck, the ‘Big Five’ can be spotted during one game drive only. Then late afternoon drive back to Arusha for overnight at Masailand Safari & Lodge.
